Trap Grease
Restaurants, commercial kitchens and food processing centers in U.S. urban areas produce 11.5 billion gallons of fats, oils and grease (FOG) every year. These facilities are required to have grease traps installed, which hold the grease and allow the water to flow to the sewer. If these traps are not periodically emptied, however, they can overflow, causing grease to flow directly into the sewer system.
Overflowing grease traps can clog city sewers and pollute our urban environment. According to the EPA, more than 25% of all sanitary system overflows (SSOs) are caused by grease buildup – threatening public health and costing cities millions of dollars in maintenance and repair costs.
Viridia Energy helps solve this critical infrastructural problem for our cities by helping to keep FOG out of the sewers. Grease haulers bring the grease waste to Viridia’s Fog Extraction Facility, which removes the FOG and passes the virtually grease-free water on to the local wastewater plant, helping cities save millions of dollars in maintenance and repair costs.
Viridia’s finished brown grease can be sold directly as a commodity or green bunker fuel replacement, or blended with other oils for further refining.
